How are you?
I had a lot of thoughts about this mad, sad world, but there are many places that you can go for commentary. I wanted to offer some moments of joy.
You must see this fluffy cow! I found it via author Jason Pargin who has a way better newsletter than mine.
The days are getting hotter (at least here in Arizona) and it’s a perfect time for cool drinks on the porch with the dogs. This is a yummy drink recipe that can be dressed up or down depending on your diet needs. Add some CBD to make it a mocktail!
Hibiscus Iced Tea Sparkler From Diethood.Com
- 4 cups boiling water
- 8 bags hibiscus tea
- 1/2 cup honey
- ice
- 2 cups sparkling water
- 1/4 cup mint leaves
- Strawberries for garnish
Combine tea bags, honey, and boiling water.
Steep 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on how strong you like your tea.
Add your garnishes.
While you’re on the porch, listen to some tunes. These are some that I’ve been enjoying.
Sometimes moments of joy require something quieter than a song. If that suits your mood, I have a poem for you. Find an audio reading and more musings at the Marginalian.org which has a sublime newsletter too.
THE WEIGHING
by Jane Hirshfield
The heart’s reasons
seen clearly,
even the hardest
will carry
its whip-marks and sadness
and must be forgiven.
As the drought-starved
eland forgives
the drought-starved lion
who finally takes her,
enters willingly then
the life she cannot refuse,
and is lion, is fed,
and does not remember the other.
So few grains of happiness
measured against all the dark
and still the scales balance.
The world asks of us
only the strength we have and we give it.
Then it asks more, and we give it.

Thanks for joining me on this moment of joy. I hope it made you smile. 🙂
Cheers, Sami
PS. Enjoy some laughs with a fun news print typo and a goofy picture of my sister’s old retired military dog enjoying this retirement.
